Objectives : The purpose of the study was to assess the reliability and validity of the Korean version of the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (K-RSES) in adult.
Methods : Data were collected from two different groups, 392 undergraduates and 244 office workers. Participants completed the Korean version of the RSES, BDI, and CD-RISC. Two versions of the K-RSES were used : one included the original meaning of the English version of one item [K-RSES(A)], and the other included a version of the item that was adapted to reflect cultural differences [K-RSES(B)]. The reliabilities and validity were tested. K-RSES(B) has higher scores on reliability and validity than RSES(A).
Results : The Cronbach¡¯s alpha coefficients were identical for K-RSES(B) with and without item 8 (¥á= 0.90). We found a positive relationship between the K-RSES(B) and the CD-RISC. But we found negative correlations between the K-RSES(B) and BDI. According to tests of construct validity, the K-RSES(B) consists of a two factor.
Conclusion : This study revealed that the K-RSES(B) has good reliability and validity in adult.
